The Digital Priestess — Episode 41: Erased to Restore
Kenichi stood in the school hallway.
The bell rang, signaling the end of class. Students flowed out of the classrooms, chatting and laughing.
Kenichi just stood there, as if frozen in time.
He had tried to return. But now it was clear.
He was no longer part of this world.
No one noticed him. No one looked at him. Not even when he whispered someone’s name.
“Yuto…”
A name that once held weight, once belonged to someone who had existed—was now nothing more than a breath lost in the wind.
Even the classrooms had changed. Familiar desks were rearranged. Posters on the walls were different.
As if the world itself had quietly rewritten reality.
Kenichi wandered the hallways. Every step echoed too loudly, as though he were trespassing in a place that no longer recognized him.
He found himself in front of the class bulletin board. Photos from a recent event were pinned up—students smiling, posing with peace signs.
He scanned every face.
Yuto wasn’t in a single one.
But neither was he.
Kenichi touched the glass covering the photos. His reflection stared back at him, blurred and flickering slightly, as if struggling to stay visible.
His fingers trembled.
This wasn’t just being forgotten. This was being erased… for a reason.
And if that reason was to bring things back to normal…
Then maybe this was the price.
Maybe erasing him was the only way to restore everything else.
He stepped back, his hand falling to his side.
“…I get it.”
The words were quiet, spoken to no one.
Kenichi murmured them to no one.
