The Digital Priestess — Episode 6: It’s Already Begun
One morning, as I turned off my phone alarm, I noticed a familiar notification from the Miko Weather app.
“Today’s weather: cloudy with a chance of sun. Temperatures will be high, but your mood is likely to be clear skies.”
(…Again with the mood forecast?)
I wasn’t quite used to it yet, but part of me had started looking forward to these strange updates.
Yesterday’s little event at the café… yeah, it had actually lifted my spirits a bit.
The bell icon in the corner of the app screen still shimmered faintly.
Maybe it updated or something? I thought, but chose not to dig too deep.
To keep the good vibe going, I decided to head out for a morning walk.
The riverside path near my apartment had a soft breeze—just enough to cool the skin.
As I strolled along, an elderly lady walking her dog approached. She smiled as we passed.
“Looks like today will be a good one. Your face is shining, you know.”
(…That mood forecast hit the mark?)
I couldn’t help but laugh a little and gave her a nod.
“Good morning,” I replied, and she waved lightly before continuing on.
No real destination in mind, but somehow my feet led me back to the same café as yesterday.
Same staff, same place—but this time, my order was taken normally, and I got the regular blend I asked for.
(Maybe yesterday really was just a fluke.)
Still… something felt like it was shifting. Subtly.
On my way home, I noticed something odd: a kid walking ahead of me had a bell hanging from their backpack.
It reminded me of the app’s icon—same style, same shimmer.
(…I’m overthinking.)
Back at home, I turned on the TV and half-watched the news, lazily scrolling through my phone.
Swiping down, I saw a previous notification, one I hadn’t noticed earlier:
“Today, someone will notice you.”
(Notice me…?)
My mind flashed back to the old woman’s words.
“Your face is shining.”
The app’s messages were starting to line up with real-world events—
and that realization gave me an odd kind of unease.
That night, just before bed, I opened my diary app on a whim.
“Walked by the river, felt nice. Café was normal. An old lady spoke to me.”
I typed that in, hit save—and for a split second, the screen shimmered.
(…Again?)
I stared at the display.
Tiny words appeared faintly at the bottom:
“Your entry has been reflected in the future.”
What the hell was that supposed to mean?
It wasn’t exactly scary.
But… I couldn’t deny that something about it was getting under my skin—
in a way that was strangely addictive.
Curled up in bed, I took one last glance at my phone.
The Miko Weather icon looked slightly different now.
The bell ornament seemed more ornate—like it had been subtly upgraded.
(…I wonder what kind of forecast I’ll get tomorrow.)
That was the last thought on my mind as I drifted off to sleep.
