Why…
Why do I have to be the one to choose?
“Upon your disappearance, all will be returned to its original state.”
That’s what it says.
But how am I supposed to choose something like that?
Two options floated on the screen of my phone:
- “Return everything to its original state”
- “Postpone the decision”
The priestess on the screen smiled quietly.
—This all began the day I found that app.
My name is Kenichi.
I’m a third-year university student majoring in Information Science.
I don’t really stand out—just drifting through each day like usual.
Gaming, browsing random stuff online, and messing around with weird apps… that’s pretty much my life.
I’m not bad at talking to people, but I always keep a bit of distance. I guess that’s just how I am.
That day, after class, I was killing time browsing the app store.
While scrolling through the “New Apps” section, one icon in particular caught my eye:
Digital Priestess — Weather
What kind of name is that?
It screamed “joke app.”
The icon showed a crimson torii gate, with a faint silhouette in white robes standing beneath it.
“No reviews… Barely any downloads either.”
No one seemed to know about it.
But maybe that’s exactly why I was drawn to it.
Curiosity got the better of me—I hit download.
Once it installed, I opened the app.
“…Huh? It’s just a normal weather app?”
Temperature, humidity, wind speed, atmospheric pressure—
All sorts of detailed data filled the screen.
No strange effects, no eerie music.
It was almost too normal.
“…Might actually be useful.”
Just as I thought that, something flickered in the corner.
A small bell icon appeared softly in the bottom-right of the screen:
“Unlock Priestess Mode”
“…Priestess Mode?”
I had no idea at the time.
That moment…
was the signal that my ordinary life was about to end.
