【Japanese Horror】The Digital Priestess Ep.3 – A Soft Glow

The next morning, the first thing I did was check the weather app.
I just had to make sure the bell icon from yesterday hadn’t been a dream.

Sure enough, there it was—
still swaying gently in the lower right corner of the screen,
its soft glow almost whispering, “Welcome back."

(…So it’s real, after all.)

I tapped it, cautiously.

Nothing.

No sound, no response.
It just sat there, glowing quietly—like it was waiting for something.

(How do I even unlock this thing?)

Suddenly, the screen shifted.
A black window appeared, white letters floating in the center:

“To unlock Priestess Mode, the following permissions are required:"

・Location
・Camera
・Microphone

(…Seriously?)

Why would a weather app need camera and mic access?
Okay, location makes sense.
But audio and video? That’s more like a surveillance tool.

(Creepy… but…)

I stared at the screen, frozen.
My finger wouldn’t move.

Fear and curiosity pushed against each other inside me.

“It’s probably just a prank app.”
“Some elaborate trick to spook the user.”

That’s what I kept telling myself.
But I couldn’t forget that sound from last night.
Right as I was about to close the app—I’d heard it.
Something inside me had reacted.

(…If I don’t go through with this, I’ll never stop thinking about it.)

With a breath held, I tapped “Allow.”

The screen went black.
No warning. No transition. Just—gone.

And then, I heard it again.

Chirin…

This time, clearly.
Not from the speaker.
It echoed inside my skull—
a tiny suzu bell rolling deep in my mind.

(…What the hell is this?)

After a few seconds, the screen came back.
Temperature, humidity, wind speed—same as always.

But something had changed.

The bell icon in the corner swayed slightly—more than before.
Its glow felt stronger.
And it felt… aware.

As if it was watching me now.

“Welcome to MIKO Weather.”

The words appeared for just a moment—
and disappeared.

It was supposed to be just a weather app.

But now, it felt like I had touched something I was never meant to find.

(…No, nothing’s happened. It’s all just for show… probably.)

I closed the app, trying to convince myself.

But that night, in every dream I had—
I heard the bell.

Again and again.
